← back to the desk

Covering a shift? You do not need anything on this page — everything for a shift is on the desk. Use the link above to go back.

Everything here changes this computer only. To set up the screen itself, or a second one, copy the address or the configuration at the bottom.

What the screen looks like

Live, with your settings. It updates when you save.

Open the screen Open the desk Try it on yourself

Try it on yourself opens the screen and turns on the mirror — your camera drives her face. Nothing is sent anywhere, and you need nobody else.

Pair a phone

On the phone that will answer, point its camera at this code. It opens the desk already connected to this screen — nothing to type. Then follow the steps the desk shows to put it on the phone's Home Screen (an iPhone never offers that on its own), and turn on Get alerts on your phone on the desk for alerts that always arrive.

Setting up for the first time, or changing the business name, its hours or the ways in? Run the setup wizard — three short steps.

Made for you by the setup wizard. Every phone paired from this page uses it, so change it only if you mean to disconnect them all.

Relay

Only needed if you are not running your own server. With a broker configured, credentials are fetched automatically and these stay empty.

Payments

Paste a Stripe Payment Link. Whatever you fill in shows up as a button you can put on the visitor's screen mid-tour. Leave a row blank to skip it.

Where messages go

When nobody is at the desk she answers what she can and writes down what she cannot. This is where those messages are sent. Install the Front Desk Inbox plugin on your website and paste the address it gives you. Leave it blank and messages are still kept on the screen and offered as an email draft — they are never silently thrown away.

Reaching you within seconds. When the message address is this screen's own /lead, every message, tour request and voice message is also emailed and texted to you — set once on the Cloudflare project (never here, never in a link): OWNER_EMAIL + RELAY_FROM + one of POSTMARK_TOKEN / RESEND_API_KEY / BREVO_API_KEY for email; OWNER_PHONE with TWILIO_ACCOUNT_SID / TWILIO_AUTH_TOKEN / TWILIO_FROM for a real text, or OWNER_SMS_GATEWAY (your number @ your carrier's email gateway, e.g. 6025551234@tmomail.net) for a free one; NTFY_TOPIC for a phone push. The screen checks in every minute; with WATCH_URL + WATCH_TOKEN set you are told when it has been silent for five minutes. See docs/away-mode.md.

Google reviews

Where Ask for a review on the desk and the printed review sign send families — one Google review link per location, one per line, as Name: link. Get each link from Google Business Profile → Ask for reviews (on some screens Get more reviews) and copy it: it looks like g.page/r/…/review. With none, the desk hides the ask and says how to set them.

The words below go to every family the same way — never “were you happy?” first, and nothing offered in return (a discount, a gift, a prize): that is Google’s rule, and a text that breaks it is not used. {name} is their first name, {business} your business’s name, {link} the location’s link (added at the end if you leave it out). Empty = Nana’s own words, shown in grey.

The facts she may use

Hours, where you are, your phone, the bin day and this week's bin price, programs and prices — as one JSON document. She turns each fact that is present into an answer and invents nothing for one that is missing. A store keeps this in sites/<name>/facts.json and the deploy publishes it; here it is the same document, pasted. The shape is at the top of src/facts.js.

Answers she can give

One per line, as question words: what she says. She only ever says what is written here — she will not guess at a price or an opening time, because every answer is a promise somebody has to keep. Anything she has no answer for becomes a message instead.

To put a question on the screen as a button, write it out with a question mark as one of the words before the colon:
What are your hours?, hours, open: We're open 24 hours a day.
Visitors tap it instead of typing, which matters because the screen is unattended most of the time and a blank box asks them to guess what she knows. Answers written without a question mark still work when somebody types — they just don't get a button, which is useful for the ones you'd rather not advertise.

What the screen says

Off until you tick it — the away screen shows no number.

One number per line — its name, a colon, the number. With the box above ticked they show on the away screen together, in this order, as tap-to-call buttons (add (text) after a number for tap-to-text). A business with two locations lists both — Nana's shows Peoria first, then Northern, and never one on its own: with only one of them here the screen shows neither. If the away message invites contact, fill in a number or the email — otherwise the screen promises something it cannot do.

Off by default. Adds a second camera model on the desk machine so she copies your arms as well as your face. The screen needs no change and her arms simply rest when this is off.
Off by default. Her 3D head on the VRoid body from the videos, on THIS screen. Downloads about 2.5 MB once. If the machine cannot draw it, she goes back to the flat body by herself. Turn it on here, on the lobby machine — not in the shared config, or every visitor's phone gets it.

Settings saved here apply to this computer only. To set up the screen itself, copy the address below and open it once on that machine — it remembers.

Rooms on the tour

Tick the rooms the desk can show a visitor. Add a photo of the real room — drag one onto the box, or click it — and it is used instead of the drawing — empty rooms only, no children in frame. Blank means the drawn room, which is always the fallback.

Products for sale

Only for a screen that sells things. A front desk screen leaves all of this empty and nothing changes. Fill it in, tick Sell on the screen, press Save products, and the character holds each product out with its price and a Buy now button — the buttons from Payments above.

Selling

Tick this and add at least one product below. Untick it and the screen goes back to being the front desk.
Show the products one after another once the screen has been left alone. A visitor tapping anything stops it.

What she says

Said in a bubble as each product comes up, with the product's own line from below. Leave a box empty for the plain version. {title}, {price} and {category} are filled in from the product. She never adds anything of her own: if you did not type a count, a date or a coupon under a product, she does not say one.

Untick and she holds the product up without a word.

The products

Drag a photo or a video onto the box, or click it. Photos are made small and kept with these settings. A video is too big for that — its name is kept and the file itself goes in the app's video folder, the same place the intro video lives. The price is in dollars. A product is only on the screen once every box it needs is right; anything wrong is said under the product.

Set up a screen

Scan this on the other tablet, or open the address once on the screen's machine — it remembers.

Or deploy it to every screen

Save this as config.json beside the app. Every screen picks it up on its next reload, and no address needs pasting anywhere.
